    list of tax codes and what they mean depend on your particular position. Common refers to the following types:

    Most taxpayers use 1257L as their standard code (£12,570 is the personal allowance for 2024/25).

    BR – the only income level taxed is the basic rate.

    You will be taxed on all income at a higher level.

    K codes are put on a tax return if a taxpayer’s deductions go higher than their claimable allowances.

    There is no tax taken out during NT.
    They allow employers to handle deductions for tax correctly. If you notice something wrong with your tax code on your payslip, get in touch with HMRC.
