I made a stupid mistake I think. My AC was blowing a little warm so I bought one of those DIY refrigerant cans from the auto store and added some. At first it seemed okay, but now the AC is actually blowing warmer than before, and I hear a weird clicking noise from the engine bay. I clearly don’t know what I’m doing. I should have looked for professional auto cooling service advice first. I read an article later that warned about overcharging the system, which can damage the compressor and cause high pressure. It also said you need to check for leaks properly, not just top it up. So now I’m worried I’ve made things much worse. Has anyone here made this mistake? How much damage can overcharging actually cause, and what do I need to tell the mechanic to fix?
